Term 3 PB4L Cluster meetings - 2019

So sorry we have had to change our last cluster meeting date but I am back on board and happy to announce my little boy - Ari Reddy was early but healthy and happy just a day before our planned meeting LOLs!!

Nice to meet some of you at the last cluster meeting and nga mihi nui for making time to attend. Feel free to come to either meetings in the future or both, content will be shared via this blog to help you make a call. Agenda:

• Introduction from host school/HnS - Tour with the Principal Michael Malins
• Welcome and checkin - what is your rose, thorn bud? Discuss at your table - share common themes (one rep per table)
• Review our cluster survey:
  response strategies - eg behaviour flow charts with a variety of responses 
  Data collection and collation eg SWIS data collection and analysis exemplar and Tamaki Primary data
  Everything! (I'm quite new at this :-) - eg  PB4L on one page with readings, and also PB4L intro 
  Engagement strategies for senior students buy in eg student voice initiatives
  Response strategies - especially around tier 2 or more complex children. Ideas for further quick activities to do with staff to keep PB4L fresh in their minds eg Classroom management strategies

APRIL CONFERENCE UPDATE:

Conference planning is running ahead of schedule, this is a conference you will not want to miss!

Our first Keynote, Dr George Sugai will present on Friday 30th August, followed by Concurrent sessions he has prepared for you. Georges presentations are always a sell out and we are very excited to have him here in New Zealand with us once more.

KEYNOTE - Dr George Sugai

“School Climate, Culture, & Local Context: Catch ‘em at the Door”

Interest in the social, emotional, and behavioural well-being of students, educators, and family members has grown internationally. As a result, attention on understanding and improving school and classroom climate and student and educator relationships has increased. The purpose of this presentation is to highlight the importance of tiered systems of support, like PB4L, in contributing to teaching and learning environments that are respectful, responsible, and safe and develop positive supportive relationships and academic and social behavior success for all students.

CONCURRENT SESSION - Dr George Sugai

“School Climate and Local Context: Implementing School-wide Positive Behaviour Supports”

During this session, George extends his discussion about the importance of tiered systems of support, like PB4L, by emphasising the practices (students) and systems (educators) associated with improving school and classroom climate, maximising engagement and developing effective relationships, and promoting student social skills for academic and behaviour success. Participants can expect to increase the accuracy and fluency of their knowledge and use of the practices and implementation supports of PB4L.

Welcome back to PB4L Cluster meetings

Hey Team,

Welcome back to another awesome year in the PB4L cluster. It's been a very eventful few years for me - I have finished my masters in "Creating digital applications to support teachers implementing PB4L Pedagogy" and also got a new job at Tamaki Primary School as the new SENCO and DP.

I was also honoured to come back to PB4L Cluster coaching role and connect with team leaders and coaches. So firstly let me say a huge thank you, for the coaches and team leaders who are returning to their roles - as you are keeping the PB4L flame burning bright in your school. Secondly, I want to welcome all new people to the PB4L team - it may seem a bit overwhelming and remember the best way to eat "the PB4L Elephant" is in small bite size pieces.

So if you are new to my cluster - please save this blog and come back to it as it is a landing page for all about PB4L and also holds the key information for my cluster meetings. Also to clarify I am running two clusters out west - first an intermediate group and then a primary group. Both will be meeting on the same day but at two separate times. If you wish to join the other time slot - then that is awesome but I need to confirm in advance for seating numbers and catering.

What: PB4L cluster meeting for coaches and team leads.
Date for Cluster meeting - Wednesday 27 March
Venues: Wesley Intermediate School - 776 Sandringham Road Extension
Times:  9.30 am to 11.30 am (West Intermediate schools) and 12.15 to 2.15 (West Primary schools)

If anyone in the west primary school cluster are willing to host closer to your area, then I am more than happy to come to a location near you, if not then Wesley Intermediate School has kindly offered a suitable space.

What will we be covering?
At this stage - I am really open to suggestions so please complete the google form to give me some guidance - otherwise I can share about using the TIC in your school and also how data is going to be your best friend in making decisions. The cluster meetings are also a chance for you to connect with other liked minded leaders and problem solve together. Some of my best learning about PB4L has come from these meetings with practitioners/teachers sharing together.

How long you have been implementing and what is your rose (success) - PB4L wise at your school. What is your thorn (barriers) PB4L wise at your school ? What is a bud (emerging ideas) at your school.

Key Topics for discussion and sharing:
Lockdown - please share what you school uses for lockdown - Also see resource links doc for possible ideas.

TIC - For many schools, Term one is a chance to review and relaunch. The TIC is a great tool to use with your team and hopefully you will have already had a meeting with some action points about using the TIC. If you haven't got one then your key questions is "What is a Team implementation checklist or TIC? " then just come as you are and we can share how you use it and have a go on the day.

Where is the PB4L data?
It's now end of term 1, so most teams will have behaviour data to review. Bring this along if you have some - especially the 5 W's. If not then come along and see how might we use behaviour data to make decisions in our school.

Next cluster dates and venue:
I am going to suggest we meet again around week 8 or 9 if possible in term two but happy to hear back from others. Most Wednesdays are the best day for me at this stage.
